I can't find who said it, in what, and it's driving me nuts! The first sentence may not be quite accurate. Thurber? Mitford (N)? I call upon your erudition.

I feel that this could well be our formerly own Jim Hart, the Aussie turned Texan travel writer, who doesn't seem to have showed up here yet. Anyone heard from or of him lately?
