Default non-broadband access

I read recently that a backwoods area of Louisiana got regular telephone service installed.

Make me wonder:

1. What are the economical ways to access email and/or www from the boondocks? (e.g. ham radio, fido net ?)

2. Is the advertising "business model" based mainly on the use of broadband ISP subscriptions?

David H.

P.S.
Perhaps you can already see that I am uncomforable with broadband access, even tho' I'm using it at this very moment.

May I ask why you're uncomfortable with broadband? Frankly, I couldn't live without it any more.

Not with the speed per se, but with the cost.

That I certainly understand, but the one thing I have learned at my advancing age is that my time is worth a LOT of money.
