Default [Dixonary] Vote in Round 2879 (ANANKE)

Folks,

Here are a baker's dozen excellent definitions of ANANKE. One of them is correct. The others are the products of your collective fertile minds. They have been edited for format consistency and are in ascending order by character count, which may not correspond to visual length in your email display font. Please vote for two that you like for any reason (such as, but not necessarily, thinking that they might be correct) by public Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list.

1. a kind of muffin.

2. to hum, or vocalise.

3. [Rare] without barbs.

4. a boisterous Latvian dance.

5. a small fruit-bearing tropical tree.

6. [Jap.] a tell-tale squeaking floorboard.

7. a Greek spirit, personifying necessity and fate.

8. a Japanese Noh mask representing the fox spirit.

9. a primitive spider shaped spirit, a source of malicious tricks.

10. a two-handled jar having a broad rounded shape and a wide bottom.

11. a protein in platypus milk which contains antibacterial properties.

12. a Mandean deity which takes the form of a toad and represents patience and balance.

13. a wooden or metal box with sliding pieces that must be moved in a particular order to open it; a puzzle box.

The deadline for voting is a bit under 42 hours from now: 3 pm on Saturday, March 17, in US EDT. According to timeanddate.com <http://timeanddate.com/>, that is:

and other times in other places. (The location field for London, England, U..K. was obscured by junk in the screen shot; apologies. London time is between San Francisco and Amsterdam in the table.) Please check any conversion that applies to you. That site, though good, doesn't claim to be perfect, and this is the season when places adjuxt their clocks forward or backward on what sometimes seem to be random dates.

New players are welcome to vote, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word - as are, of course, veteran players who happened not to. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Happy voting,

Efrem
