Default [Dixonary] Round 2888 Voting Time: TATOUAY

Folks,

Here are a baker's dozen excellent definitions of TATOUAY. One of them is correct. The others are the products of your collective fertile minds. They have been edited for format consistency and are in ascending order by character count, which may not correspond to visual length in your email display font. Please vote for two that you like for any reason (such as, but not necessarily, thinking that they might be correct) by public Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list.

1. [Creole] potatoes.

2. a street urchin; a precocious imp.

3. [Tagalog] the sound made by a moving train.

4. a Polynesian stew made of breadfruit and taro.

5. a large armadillo, native to tropical South America.

6. [Haitian Creole] a small fishing boat propelled by oars.

7. a mark left (usually on the skin) by the healing of injured tissue.

8. an alternately melancholy and gay piece of music, found chiefly in the work of Spanish composers.

9. a bed consisting of a wooden frame strung with interlaced cords or webbing, used chiefly in South Asia.

10. a species of bird in which the male coloration resembles that of the female, except during the mating season.

11. an initial layer of paint applied to a ground, which serves as a base for subsequent layers of paint; underpainting.

12. clothing made from the inner bark of certain trees (tapa-cloth), often highly decorated, and used by many Pacific Island natives.

13. a member of the banana family, but strictly a plantain rather than a banana, the tatouay is treated as a vegetable, usually served baked.

The deadline for voting is 46 hours from now: 9 am on Monday, April 23, in US EDT. According to timeanddate.com <http://timeanddate.com/>, that is:

and other times in other places. Please check any conversion that applies to you. That site, though good, doesn't claim to be perfect, and this is the season when places adjuxt their clocks forward or backward on what sometimes seem to be random dates.

New players are welcome to vote, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word - as are, of course, veteran players who happened not to. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Happy voting,

Efrem
