Default [Dixonary] Round 2897, vote for NIXTAMALIZATION

Here are 13 definitions for NIXTAMALIZATION, one of which came from a real
dictionary.
Vote for your 2 favorites no later than 5 PM EDT, Thursday June 1.

1. denial of diplomatic entry and exit privileges to the family of a
foreign diplomat, while continuing to extend them to the diplomat
himself or herself.

2. to shell, shuck, peel, or unwrap; any similar action by which one
removes something from an outer casing.

3. [US postal slang] a bad correction of what was already a nixie [nixie
- can't be delivered because illegibly addressed]

4. the phenomenon whereby the quasiparticles of a system cannot be
constructed as combinations of its elementary constituents.

5. the treatment of extreme dehydration.

6. the art or practice of logical disputation, esp. if specious.

7. the step in cheesemaking in which rennet is added to milk in order to
bring about coagulation.

8. the process by which insects molt their exoskeletons.

9. the relative loss or decrease over time of liquidity in market
capital.

10. a process for the preparation of maize (corn), or other grain, in
which the corn is soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, usually
limewater, washed, and then hulled.

11. the steeping of a substance in water to obtain its soluble
principles.

12. the minimalization of discrepant data from a data set not fitting the
desired result.

13. a policy of eliminating the influence of native culture in Ceylon
(later Sri Lanka).

Having a postman in the family, I'm tempted by 3, but I think I'll go for 9 and 12, please.

From Friday I'll be mostly out of touch for 2 weeks, though occasionally there is good enough
reception to get a connection.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

8 because it's funny and 12 because it's kind of how I decide how to vote.

4 and 12, because a long word like this deserves a complicated definition.

It could be any of these, but I'll try 8 and 9.

8. the process by which insects molt their exoskeletons.

9. the relative loss or decrease over time of liquidity in market capital.

My definition, sent almost two hours before the deadline, does not appear to
have made it.

In any case, I'll give my votes to 2 and 10:

I don't have a clue, so I'll vote 10 & 11.

10. a process for the preparation of maize (corn), or other grain, in

which the corn is soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, usually

limewater, washed, and then hulled.

11. the steeping of a substance in water to obtain its soluble

principles.

Mike obviously left off the real definition because it can't be any of
these.

So I'll take 1 and 13 just to prove I read them all. So there.
