Exclamation OT: Something Rhymes With Purple

Something to while away the time while you are in lockdown... another podcast!

"Susie Dent and Gyles Brandreth invite you to enhance your vocabulary, uncover the hidden origins of language and share their love of words"

https://play.acast.com/s/somethingrhymeswithpurple

Brits will probably know the names (and Countdown - look up the ruder rounds on youtube)

"Susie Dent is a lexicographer and etymologist. She has appeared in Dictionary Corner on Channel 4’s ‘Countdown’ since 1992." She was originally just on loan from OED to arbitrate and comment the 'words' rounds (longest word from 9 random letters) but has since gone on to be a writer and columnist in her own right (https://inews.co.uk/author/susie-dent)

Gyles Brandreth can talk the hind leg off a donkey... writer, broadcaster, comedian, after-dinner speaker (holds the record at 12.5 hours!), international Scrabble and Monopoly champion, teddy bear and sweater collector, ex-member of parliament...

I did a quick look through the old words dealt here and discovered Susie's favourite word has been played in round 1990 (Mar 2009)

scurrifunge/scurryfunge
Rnd 1990 (Mar 2009): 19. to wriggle about.
Susie prefers "the hasty tidying of the house between the time you see a neighbour coming and the time they knock on the door"
