Judy reports getting kind of a weird picture of the rolling scores for
round 1614. Speaking just for me--I'm receiving by e-mail, from the Yahoo listserv, and I use TAPCIS for my e-mail--it looks fine, with the sole exception that the column *headings* are slightly displaced; below that, everything (names and scores) lines up perfectly, both horizontally and vertically. --Dodi Yahoo! >>Not on my computer!<< Tell me, what did your copy of **your** email look like when it was emailed back to you by the group? My point was that it depended on the font types in use on *both* machines, sender and receiver: and whether both or either was set to receive text or html - etc etc. JohnnyB -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I'm wondering about tabs versus spaces. The bottom line is this: There aren't many messages in Dixonary that require neat columns or will make a difference in my life <G>, and I can live with whatever I get. I originally mentioned it to see whether anyone else experienced the misaligned columns. If I'm the only one . . . so be it. I wonder whether the choice of "convert to HTML" would improve things. Hi Judy,
>I am using IE6 and Express Plus as my email client. > >Did you use spaces or tabs? I use neither The rolling scores are kept and posted by Mike.I don't know what or where he posted. I do know that if I check his message in either tapcis.com or in my mail archive, it is displayed with enough spaces between the column to get them lined out. So I _suspect_ that Mike used spaces to align the columns. If I check the same message on groups.yahoo.com, each set of spaces is simply replaced by one space. >This is not a major issue (although I guess any crowns that come through will be funny looking). <G> Amen to that. My feedback re
> I'll just quote a small amount of your message, but this is what it looks like on my computer: (seeing the list by email, using fixed font for all msgs): a) Mike's list was almost perfect. Only the words "Round" in the top line didn't line up exactly with their numbers. Those numbers did line up with all the rest. b) Your quotation is identical (except that the << make it slightly too wide, so the last bit of each line spills over) c) I'm getting this thread all out of sequence! Many hours ago i saw replies to your message, only now i see your message itself. One hint: set your font (to read messages in) to a fixed width (monospaced) one. That's the only way you can ever *begin* to hope to see any tabular message align well. Proportional fonts won't do that (even if sender and receiver both use proportional, chances are slim they use fonts that are proportional in the exact same way). Using fixed font also helps when you *write* a message that you want to align on other people's screen -- otherwise they are never going to guess just which proportional font you used. All fixed fonts align in exactly the same way. --Regards, marijke Yahoo! Groups settings and am awaiting a second mailing of the list to see if that helps. I don't mean your Yahoo! settings, but your own settings at home in your email program. The Yahoo! list doesn't mail any fonts info, it just mails out plain ASCII text. Your email program will have a setting somewhere what font to use if the message itself doesn't specify any font. It'll be buried in "Options", "Preferences" or some such. You could pick a fixed-width one, such as Courier Courier New Fixedsys Ice Nine Lucida Console Monospace 821 Terminal or anything else with "mono" or "fixed" or "console" or "terminal" in its name. Assuming you get the list by mail of course. If you view it on the web, you could try and change the font your browser uses -- not recommended, then all web pages use that font! --Regards, marijke Yahoo! Judy and Marijke, there is an option in the Coryphaeus group that deals
with HTML; it's on the Edit Membership page, at the bottom. Under Message Format, you can choose betwen "convert to HTML" and "do not convert to HTML, don't change format of messages". Now, Judy, this would not control how you RECEIVE messages. So if you are getting some in HTML they are probable sent by someone using it or by someone who chose to convert to it. I have a feeling this will come to you as HTML because I haven't totally figured out this Email software yet. I have switched to the option *not* to convert. If someone sends a text message (as you apparently did), that's how it arrives. And now that I'm using a monospaced font, it looks good. I just went to the Cory Yahoo! site, and there are *no* options to choose what kind of mail i send. Only how i receive mail. And i had a look at my message (the one you replied to) and it doesn't look at all HTMLish to me...
