mark forum as read

The colored icon that means "new messages (I think)" in a forum seems to remain present for a longer period now, after the forum software upgrade, than it used to in the past. So that I either have to view all the "unread" threads in the forum or "mark the forum as read" to stop it from appearing.

Is this correct ?

If so, is there a way to change my user options to make the "new messages" icon disappear sooner ?

It is different because we're holding the information on the server rather than in a cookie on your system. (That was causing problems for some users.) Just do a quicklinks, mark forums as read before you exit Tapcis.com and you'll be good to go.
