[Dixonary] News from Guerri

I am in the throes of Alzheimer's disease or some other dementia. I
would not wish it on my worst enemy.

What's weird is that I can operate just fine in some ways. I went for a
walk, and had no trouble, though admitedly I stayed in my own
neighborhood. I think exercise is believed to help. Of course, maybe the
exercise tires you out so that when you are done you take a nap rather
than annoy everyone around you by asking them to repeat things over and
over.

This makes me wonder how many players have dropped out of the game
because of dementia. I think we lost one to cancer, but I don't recall
who. Possibly Dodi.

Re: [Dixonary] News from Guerri

Guerri,
I find it remarkable that you are even aware of your condition. My last 11
months I've been dealing with my 99 year old mother's Alzheimer's, who is
about a stage 6, but she has never admitted to any thing being wrong with
her. Prior to me moving her to NC last November, my husband and I were not
able to detect any serious problems on our twice a year visits to Alabama
where she lived alone. It wasn't till she broke her hip last September
that it, more or less, flared up.

You have a priceless window of opportunity to make your own plans for the
future. My prayers are with you.

Guerri,

I am sorry to hear this.** I recently went through this with my mother and was blessed to be able to cherish the good parts while working around the struggles.

I do know that routine is good, and I hope that staying involved in this game is a routine you can keep up!

That's what I wanted to say, but apparently it takes a Dutch speaker to find the right English words.

Thanks for the kind words and I hope I am not repeating myself.

I don't know whether it is better to know or better not to know. I like
to know. To some extent, if you don't know, then what goes on around you
can be confusing or frightening.

Re: [Dixonary] News from Guerri

Hi, Guerri,

Personally, I would want to know so that I could plan accordingly, in addition to understanding why life becomes more and more confusing and frightening. However, I can also understand why some people would rather not know ("Ignorance is bliss"?).

As you know from our prior conversations, you have my best wishes on your journey. I hope you will remain a member of the Dixonary family for as long as possible. If there's anything I can do help when you have the honor of being "dealer," please let me know.

Judy
