Eudora is yelling at me???

Okay... this one I can't figure out.

Eudora (email program) has a feature called MoodWatch. You can enable it to, among other things, remind you to tone down your language. Since it's probably not a good idea to tell federal judges to go to a very hot place, I decided to go ahead and enable the feature on my work email.

Today, it informed me, solemnly, that using the phrase "my eyes may deceive me" is "the sort of thing that might get your keyboard washed out with soap" and that I should "consider toning it down." The words that were highlighted were "may deceive me".

Huh??? If that's offensive, it's a sure bet I can't EVER send an email to a politician!!!

:p

I guess Eudora doesn't understand figures of speech.

I think that's rather a neat idea, though, to have your software say to you, "Uh, do you really want to say this?" Never a bad idea to take a second look at what you've written, even if you decide it's a case of the software being too literal.

I only use it at work, where my SEND finger may move faster than my brain.

I really do like the concept -- I caught myself once tossing off a rather... uh... colloquial expression in a business email to someone who would NOT have appreciated it. But geez... "may deceive me"???

Computers can be sooooo literal. I guess Eudora thinks you're calling the guy a damned liar.

Hilariously, I just enabled moodwatch at home and sent a message to my alternate email that reads, in its entirety, "You're a liar!"

No warning.

Judy,

You can adjust the level that it warns at. It is in the options, mood watch. You may have the warning level set differently.

Ah, geez. Try "Moodwatch is an idiot."
