As far as I know my settings within Thunderbird for getting my Email
have not changed. And earlier this morning I was able to collect my
Email with no problems. However, a few minutes ago I instructed Tbird to
get mail, and after thinking for awhile, it presented me with a message
asking for a password for guerri (AT) tapcis (DOT) com on pop.gmail.com.

I hit cancel, then looked at my settings. I didn't have anything set up
as a password for that, although I did have some other "on
pop.gmail.com" passwords. Of course the gmail pop server evidently
thought it had a password so I had a few moments of panic because I had
no idea what it thought the password was, but I was able to satisfy its
demands.

I have Tbird set up to remember passwords. So, the real questions are:
was there one stored and did I somehow manage to delete the stored
password while having no memory of doing so? I don't think so. Was
everything working OK somehow without any password, and now gmail wants one?

This is bizarre, to say the least. I know Gmail is making some changes,
and I am temporarily sticking with the old system. But I also know they
make other changes behind the scenes that they evidently don't tell us
about, thinking they are trivial.

A more sinister possibility is an email hack at work, trying to get you to
supply your password. I would do a full scan for viruses.

That said, I have had some quirky sign ins, at times, with both gmail and
yahoo mail.

That is nothing to worry about, I think. Your browser stores your password
in a cookie and occasionally gmail will decide that it needs to ask again.
