I will submit my def very soon. I will pray I don't garner too many votes
however. As I write this we are packing to roll north about 650 miles to be
with our daughter when she brings the new baby home. The doctor promised the
birth-mother he will induce labor on Monday if she doesn't go into labor
naturally by Sunday. So, if I should be so brilliant as to win, I will need
to beg off. (Not that I expect to, but I have been surprised before).

Let's hope those Rocky Mountain Chinook winds have died down enough for us
to drive safely. We will be passing along the edge of the windy Great Basin
and the western edge of the Rockies right up to our destination.

Mike,

That's very exciting news! Best wishes to everyone -- and, yes, we'll all hope that the weather cooperates. And by all means play this round. I hope you get lots of votes...and have to pass the deal on to someone else. LOL!

Judy

Sounds like a legitimate bye, even without all the wind. Best wishes to
mom, baby and all. Being a grandad is a great thing.

Thanks, Judy. (I think).

It has been a long and bitter 15 years for my daughter. Being barren has
been particularly hard on her. They fell into this wonderful opportunity to
adopt this baby after she lost the last one after 20 weeks and right after
she was told weeks later she can never conceive without severe problems due
to a chromosome problems and an unviable uterus. She's been through hell
physically and emotionally, so needless to say, we are all very excited over
it. The timing could not have been more providential.

She will have to go to Idaho and comply with their state adoption laws
before she can bring the baby home, but we will stay behind in Utah to hold
the fort down, so to speak. We have been through this three times before
with our oldest daughter, so we are seasoned veterans now.

Mike,

So many of us take childbearing for granted, forgetting the heartache of the many who are unable to give birth. It sounds like your family has been through a lot. Thank goodness there are opportunities for adoption...not only for your daughter and son-in-law but for the baby, who is so fortunate to have the promise of being adopted by a loving family. Safe travels to all...and I look forward to hearing wonderful news soon.

So true, Judy! Sixteen years ago my first daughter tried for the next five
years until they found the problem, which was irresolvable. During that time
unthinking peers made some pretty presumptive remarks that cut her deeply.
I have learned from that to never wonder why some couples have no children.
It just is not any of my business, and no one knows another's deeply hidden
pains. It humbled me and made me a wiser man. I also learned that adopted
children (grandchildren) are no different at all in the way they love us and
we love them. Blood has nothing to do with it at all.

Some people just don't stop to think, I guess, especially when it's none of their business!!

Amen. They are truly special...and so lucky to have been chosen.

Sounds like an excellent reason to give the deal a miss just in case and congratulations. There's nothing quite like becoming a grandfather. My son in Denver and my daughter here in New Jersey have made me a grandfather three times over in the last three years with three precious little girls. I still can't fully comprehend the experience. I just know that it is like nothing imaginable.

Grandfatherhood is indeed wonderful -- we've got four -- until one
granddaughter with drop-dead good looks, a wardrobe of mini minis, and outrageous
shoes turns 18 and moves in with you for the entire summer.
