New research reveals that today (which by now should be Monday for all
of us) is a special day for certain alliterative (but not
illiterate) antipodeans. Happy birthday Millie Morgan.

Happy Milliemas, Millie!

(I didn't think the PM's comment was so bad, he said his accent wasn't the
best.)

It was when you wrote that, but I think most of us were still fast
asleep. Now it's Monday morning here, but Melbourne's moved on to Tuesday.

Slightly belated birthday greetings, Millie!

Be careful not to get singed by those candles that hang down from the cake
down under!

In any event, have a happy one and many more to come.

YES!!! I never saw the ASCII version. I saw it on an actual birthday card
and have been successfully plagiarizing it ever since. I need to put
together a rebus that I can use. Hmmmm... (looking for art online).

Ah the simple pleasures of ASCII art. What an innocent age that was.

re the PM's accent -- when I heard it I thought it was just bad, no-where
near as terrible as the journalists were claiming -- mind you they were
claiming that that the Aussies were immensely angry at a solecism reported
as a serious diplomatic gaffe.

I think that two items illustrate up our relationship:
- one is the question "What is the difference between a pom/oz and a
jumbo-jet?" - answer "The jumbo-jet stops whining when it has landed." I
first and second heard that in the order I have shown but on the same day
but about 130 miles apart
- the second is a lovely cartoon by Bill Tidy. It shows a man-of-war
anchored in a bay. On the sands of the bay is the sign-post "Botany Bay"
The centre of the cartoon is a long-boat coming ashore from the warship
with a frock-coated Lieutenant standing in the stern with two soldiers,
some sailors rowing but the boat otherwise filled with scruffy unshaven men
- the caption is "Row, y' pommie b...ds, row!"
