Da Winnah of round 2231 is Daniel Widdis with his definition - “[Prov.
Eng. Or Irish] the sea bream” garnering 4 votes. The votes were all
over the place. Definers far outfoxed guessers in this round. Thanks
to all the clever fakes, nobody voted for the REAL def. There was one
DQ (only ONE!) from the seemingly freakish John Barrs who knows
practically every word.

Millie Morgan (#7), Paul Keating (#11), Jim Hart (#15) and Tim Bourne
(#17) all tied for the ever-coveted second place with 3 points. How is
THAT for competitive?

The true definition was #4, “an amphibious, insectivorous musk-
secreting mammal found in Russia,” found in Webster's venerable 1913
edition.

Here is the breakdown:

1. a regional governor in the Ottoman Empire.

Congratulations on the D0, Steve D!

But, a correction: You have me voting for three different defs: 1, 5,
and 7. In fact, I registered only the two votes to which I'm entitled;
they were 1 and 7.

Maybe somebody else voted for Steve G's talisman, but I didn't. (Sorry, SG!)

Hmmm... I'll have to look at that when I get home. The votes and voters tallied up. I must have made a mistake when typing up the announcement.

It looks like Dan Widdis voted for my not-so-successful fantasy definition

Yep, the vote for #5 "a talisman" was by Daniel Widdis. I think all the
vote tallies and scores are right. I just typed in Schulz in that "Vote
from" space for some reason. Just a goof in the reporting, not the count
or the scores.

Congratulations on the D0!

And you're right about Johnny; we should have an award similar to D0 for
dealers who submit words he *doesn't* know!

And special recongition for words which fool him then as well <g>. I
propose a D0 be renamed a "Barrs".

But only if he has has actually voted for a fake def, which I can't
recall his doing, although I suppose it has happened at least once. ;-)

Last round was a D0, but Johnny had DQ'd.

Yes, he *knew* it, so Barrs wasn't fooled. He felt so bad having to give me
another DQ, right out of the box, on my second word. Given his multi-layered
education and work history, I decided not to feel too bad.

I'd feel pretty special if I got one by him.

I don't think a D0 should be named a "Barrs". I was suggesting that
there should be a term if he does NOT DQ. Or maybe the DQ itself should
be a "Barrs".
