I got a message within my Dixonary stuff with the title "the latest way
to make money". Sender is Helen Howard. I didn't open it.

I'm assuming we all received it.

I believe that message slipped through the moderation process. I don’t know
about the other moderators, but I've been having intermittent problems with
the moderation process, where I'll mark the messages in the queue and then
click moderate, only to have some sort of crash occur and get the message
that 'the page could not be displayed'. That message was in the queue when
this happened so I can only assume that it got 'mis-clicked' and ended up
getting through.

What disturbs me about that spam is that the (fake) "From" address is on the
domain of a mail server that I help maintain. It is the server to which
Dixonary mail is delivered for my game address. I don't know if that's
strictly a coincidence or whether my presence on this list has somehow
increased the probability that the server's domain will be used to generate
fake addresses for spam sent to the list.

I haven't received any such message.

The subject line tells you it's spam.

But I don't understand what you mean by "within my Dixonary stuff". A
message within another message? Or between two Dixonary messages?

I don't know about Dodi and Steve, but I download my email thru MS Outlook
2007 and it automatically kicked it to the Junk email box even though it had
a dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com header on it with "on behalf of; HelenHoward
[most make maney]".

Apparently, by using the name tag "[most make maney]",(sic) the Outlook
software recognized it as out of the norm?. No other emails from the group
have ever automatically gone to junk mail.If you say you did not get it,
check your spam or junk email boxes.

Did Helen join the group to do this, or has she hacked the group email
somehow?

I don't know what Guerri meant, but in my case that message came to an address which I only use for
Dixonary, and was filtered to my Dixonary folder, so it was indeed "within my Dixonary stuff".

Best wishes,
Tim B.

I have filters set up in Thunderbird to direct messages to specific
folders. The spam message ended up in my Dixonary folder. That is why I
said it was "within my Dixonary stuff", admittedly not very clear
writing! I really didn't know whether it originated at the Google group
or whether it originated at tapcis.com, but my guess is the former.

The spam message also appeared on the Google Group website. I used
the link provided by Google to report it as spam.

And I don't know about Steve, but Thunderbird picks up my mail from the
server and delivers it to my inbox. It apparently took one look at the
HelenHoward message and decided not to even get its hands dirty.

I didn't get a personal email (sigh, nobody loves me) but it's still
on the Dixonary group site as Tim L mentioned. The text (so-called) is
nothing but dozens of variations on phrases like "make more money"

Sometimes I don't know about Steve, either.

My Outlook 2007 downloads messages from Network Solutions' mail server, but
it didn't get to my spam folder (at least I think it didn't)

Ah. My Thunderbird puts everything in my inbox. It never fetched that
message.

Don't your message headers show you separate "from" and "sender" lines?
Mine do. Your message above was "from" you but the "sender" was
dixonary@googlegroups, telling me it wasn't a private communication from
your computer to mine but was distributed to the group. If I'd received
the spam message, the same would have been true. It's certainly at the
googlegroups site; I haven't checked the tapcis site, but I expect it's
there too, since that site gets all the group stuff.

I don't see the message header unless I open the message and I didn't
want to open that message.

I did think it was odd that Tbird hadn't automatically flagged it as spam.

I sent this early this morning, but although I got no error message, it
hasn't appeared. So I apologize in advance if this turns out to be a
second copy!

I don't see the message header unless I open the message and I didn't
want to open that message.

I did think it was odd that Tbird hadn't automatically flagged it as spam.
