It is the dealer's prerogative whether or not to combine similar
definitions. While I would probably have combined 2 and 17, Keith obviously
had a different opinion, and it certainly is not required to combine defs
(unless, I would say, they are identical).

other wasn't combined with it. ;)

I'll have one of the twins (probably the wrong one, if indeed it's
either), which I also would definitely have combined, and one none-twin:

I'm tempted to go with Dan's reasoning - but then I guess that could apply
to 19 and 20 as well (or am I showing my prejudices?) so... I'll go for #2
and #19 please

I pondered a long time on whether to combine two definitions. Finally, as
sleep almost overtook me, i made the call.

I will just say that definitions can be combined (or not) whether they
include the "correct" answer - or not.
Dealer discretion.

I will leave it at that - until the round is over.

Of the paired defs, 2 and 17, I vote for 2 because 17 doesn't sound like a
real dictionary. On the dubious but nonetheless durable assumption that the
dealer is reluctant to combine a fake def with the real one, one of them
must be right.

15 sounds like Johnny Barrs, and I don't believe it because I don't think
_iactare_ was ever applied to throwing a ball (that is _iacire_). And in any
case, I think the Elizabethans called crown bowls "bowls" or "bowling", not
"jactancy", even in flights of rhetorical phantasy.

Since the only other marginally credible def is 9, I'll vote for that.

That's 2 and 9.

Um - I beg to differ about jactancy and bowls -- why do you think the "jack"
is the "jack" in green bowling (the small ball that you throw up the green
to play to)

I don’t believe that word owes its origin to either Latin verb. And the jack is precisely the bowl you don’t throw.

In the normal flat-green game, the jack is thrown: and then placed on the
centre line at the distance it reached - part of the tactics of the game is
to define the length to suit your team - and as the winners get to throw the
next jack, they can dominate a game.

bowls of course, are not thrown --- old joke "old bowlers never die they
just drop their balls"

However, I am not sure of the origin of the word jack -- and amusingly the
OED does not have that meaning for jack - some think that jactus lapidum may
have referred to bowls - I merely do not know
