Well, here they are...19 clever or jokish (or both) definitions of
GNEEVE, one really from my trusty, standard dictionary. Please vote
by responding to this email for the two you like best -- for
whatever reason -- by 11:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday August 24,
approximately 38 hours from now, wherever you are.

Nancy

1. a sheriff.

2. a female gnu

3. juniper _obs. (Milton)_.

4. underground water-channel.

5. [Scot.] enough; sufficient.

6. a type of boat used on the rivers of Eastern Europe.

7. the twelfth part of a ploughland.

8. loyal; steadfast.

9. lustful; foolish

10. to impale, as with a sword.

11. a metal rim sometimes used on a gauntlet.

12. a solitary hill in an otherwise flat area.

13. [Afrikaans] a young boy.

14. snow, either in drifts or heavy accumulations.

15. to sit silently, pondering the world.

16. _Scots_ a kind of flatbottom rowboat.

17. what happens when a gnu or a gnat is annoyed; frequently found
in the forms gneevish or gneeved.

18. a technique of decorating metal in which areas that have been
hollowed out, as by incising, are filled with colored enamel and
fired.

19. ['jen-iv-er'] derogatory term for Luther's hymns, which he set
to contemporary folk tunes; derived from 'Geneva jigs'.

And now it's up to us to guess if your dictionary has a clever or a jokish
definition?

These two are my favorites this round.

Best, Hugo

They are all impossible but 7 is so unreasonable that it has to have a vote; but 11 sounds plausible to me

So #7 and #11 for me please

Good, must have been a one-time glitch.

I thought it might be a good idea to let people know where I was coming from.

I'll take 2 and 12, the first for its cleverness, the second for
its being almost plausible.
