Well, I narrowed it down to four (probably all wrong!) and will vote for these two:

<< 11: the wrest plank on a harpsichord q.v.

<< 16: a large food fish of South East Asian coastal waters,
<< _Arripis trutta_,
<< that is greenish grey to silvery underneath and spotted with
<< brown:
<< resembles a salmon, but is in fact a marine perch.

Hm. We seem to have an increasing number of nonparticipants. That should
make selection easier. Hah! I don't even know what some of the words in
some of these definitions mean.

Pure guesswork here:

and

Millie,

That is a list from which I can discern no clue at all so I'm going to use
the venerable old Dixonary utility RAND to generate my votes:

Numbers 5 and 9

Old timers will recognize RAND, which incidentally wouldn't run under the 64
bit version of Win7. RAND was a little program that Russ Heimerson wrote in
Turbo Pascal. It takes the number of defs and randomizes two numbers from
the range of defs.

11 and 14 for creativity, please

Just as a bit of fun (and a programming exercise) I've put a version
of RAND on a page on my website at:

http://www.timlodge.co.uk/dixonary/phpRand.php

Windows 7 users are welcome to use it!

My votes are for #12 and #13 only because I like animals and have no idea
which is correct.

How really weird!

The above, sent yesterday afternoon in response to a note from Tim Lodge
(which I received yesterday afternoon), just arrived in my mailbox.
About 19 or 20 hours later. (It was at the GoogleGroups site yesterday.)

The Lord and the Internet work in mysterious ways.

Millie -

An interesting list. I'd like -

9: a small body of brackish water

and

11: the wrest plank on a harpsichord q.v.

after which I need a wrest.

Thanks,

Chuck

Chris's earlier Thursday message, his vote in this round, has *now*
reached my mailbox.

Weird. Really weird. For some reason, his messages (and only his) were
detained overnight and then some.

That is strange. Nothing has changed on my end, as far as I know, but I've also noticed the lag on my last 3 or 4 messages.
