Reasonable course of action. Two queries:
1. Does anyone actively use tapcis.com who doesn't/wouldn't find alternate
means?
2. Have we recruited _any_ new players via tapcis.com?

If the answer to both questions is no, I wouldn't mind dropping it.

OTOH, Google Groups does a horrible job of threading when people post new
messages as replies, even if the subject is changed. Tapcis.com at least
fixed subject headers...

AFAIK, all those who have joined Dixonary in the recent past have
learned about us either through a connection with a current player or
via a stumble-upon at GoogleGroups.

After all the trouble that was spent on getting two-way communication with
tapcis.com to work, it would be a pity to abandon it for the silly reason
that if a dealer posts three messages there in the same x-minute window, the
results are unsatisfactory when viewed in Google Groups (but not in email).

On the other hand, the reason for setting the two-way communication up has
gone away. That reason was simple: the week the game was chucked out of
CompuServe, there were two competing announcements about a new home for it.

You can quite rightly blame that on lack of communication among those
involved. But some players thought that signing up to a Yahoo group would
lay them open to boundless spam, and wanted instead the sort of controlled
environment offered by vBulletin. Other players wanted the game to have a
files section, and regarded the vBulletin "sticky messages" option as a
dodgy substitute for the real thing.

In the meantime players have discovered that having a yahoo or google
address does not add significantly, if at all, to the quantity of spam you
get. And Google Groups has done away with its files section, and we have
been forced to short that shortcoming up with dixonary.net.

An equally viable alternative option would be to move the centre of gravity
to tapcis.com

Wow, long time since I've earned myself a crown.

The perils of learning new email software, argh!

I don't use tapcis.com for playing the game, so unlinking the game from
the forum wouldn't affect me as far as I can tell.

Eliminating the Google group, which I think Paul is suggesting, would
annoy me. I like the idea that I can set myself up so that game messages
come to me by Email, and would not want to have to log in to the forum
to play.

The bug happens very rarely so in my opinion we can live with it.

I only use email, which I find quite adequate for embarrassing myself from
time to time.

Having to log into something would be annoying - even if I could remember to
do so.
