Greetings

I think I survived my first attempt at dealing. I appreciate the many
words of support you all contributed. I'm still baffled as to what
rules Google uses in reformatting copy that passes through its digital
intestines, but here goes.

I found this word interesting in that it's an ambiguous concatenation
of two familiar words .... but is that second word "wing" or "swing?"

Congratulations to Jim Hart on winning the round by luring seven
members into his silken snare (not to mention having the longest
definition) of "a type of very fine silk lace, also known as "wedding
ring lace" from its use for a bridal shawl which traditionally could
be pulled through a wedding ring." (#20)

Jim, however, reports that he is out of Internet reach for a while and
thus the deal passes to Mike Shefler who scored a natural 4 for his
fine silk (#18), tying Millie Morgan (#8, also natural but outranked
by Mike) and Dave Cunningham's and Guerri Stevens' unnatural 4s.

In general, the "fabricated" distracters garnered a lot of votes, but
the Oxford dictionary definition is: "a filmy crust on old port
wine" (#5) The oenologically perspicacious Johnny Barrs knew that one
and kindly removed himself from the voting.

Dave Cunningham, Guerri Stevens, Tim Lodge and Chris Carson all got
the right definition, perhaps it was so different from the rest of the
definitions that it stood out.

(As a side note: A week from today, my wife and I will be in sunny
Portugal headed for Porto itself and the Douro Valley where the
world's port comes from. I'm not sure of the Internet access, so I
might be away for a couple of weeks. Had I mentioned that previously,
I'm sure this clever crowd would have taken that as a hint.)

Great job on your first deal. I was amused and entertained, and thought you
picked a great woid.

You're far too kind, Dan ... but thanks.
