View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2170: GAMEL [Results]

In round 2170, two players earned top spot with 5 points: they were
Dave Cunningham and Millie Morgan. Dave Cunningham's definition
"_Arab._ lit. 'revered one'" earned its author the deal, and Millie
Morgan can heave a sigh of relief that "a Javanese percussion mallet"
did not earn one more vote

Johnny Barrs remarked in his DQ that he was particularly taken with
Dave's definition, because the third letter of the Arabic alphabet,
gimel, (and of the Greek alphabet, gamma), was originally a stylized
representation of a camel.

There were three players in runner-up position with 3 points each: Tim
Bourne, Dodi Schultz and Daniel Widdis.

The true definition was 9: "to play games" (OED Online, November
2010), which two perceptive players guessed. When I googled for this
word I drew a complete blank, so I will try and post a link to the OED
Online entry here, in a separate message.
