View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 1636 - Gulix results!

Judy, congratulations on the D0!

I'm afraid Cory's calculations of the dealership (how on earth would it do
that?) are a bit off; I'm the dealer for the next round.

We don't yet have post-round-1635 rolling scores, because Mike's away. But
the next deal when there's a tie is based on the total for the last four
rounds. Russ's scores for rounds 1632 through 1635 were respectively 2, 0,
0, and 4; total, 6. Mine were 3, 4, 0, and 1; total, 8.

New word coming up momentarily.

<< Judy, congratulations on the D0!

Thanks, Dodi!

<< I'm afraid Cory's calculations of the dealership (how on earth would it do

All I could think is that it computed the winner by looking at the last names alphabetically. LOL!

Ah, okay. I thought it went back further than four rounds. I should have read the directions.

It doesn't actually calculate. It gives the dealer an option of
breaking the ties, which is usually done manually before the scores are
produced. In this case, it apparently took whatever default it had,
which had a 50% chance of being wrong.

It goes five rounds, but that includes the current round which is always
a tie; thus the four rounds preceding the current one are used for the
tiebreaker.

I guess that's still four rounds then. LOL!

It can't. You have to tell it by entering the tiebreak by hand.

Congrats on the D0 = a nice simple definition that looks too simple!

I figured that but thought I had to go back more than four rounds. Live and learn!

BTW, Cory worked *very* well for me, although I did hand-enter the definitions and votes. I used the clipboard for sending out messages. I really didn't mind entering the information because it certainly gave me control over what was reaching Cory! Meanwhile, I'm not sure what I have to do to integrate Cory with my email program.

Thanks for all your help with Cory over the past . . . gosh, years!! I can now see everything, which is a big plus!

Well, I'm glad it worked for you, but entering stuff by hand is very
tedious, and, for votes, error prone.

Now that the round is over and you have time to play with it, try the
following:

Move the game emails temporarily back to your Inbox or equivalent.
Tell Coryphæus to import the messages: Messages | Email.
Say that you want it to look at all messages in your Inbox (not just unread
ones) but filter on word/round number (this is dangerous in practice because
some players vote with messages headed "Digest Number 123", but it will do
for the test.)

If you get a spate of dialogues about name collisions you need to resolve,
that is _good_. It's also worth going through with, even in a test, because
then you won't have to do it again when you are importing for real.

If you are told "0 messages imported" that is bad and we'll have to look at
what the problem might be.

Remind me what email program you use? We did discuss it but I don't seem to
have those messages anymore.
