For those who liked Eudora, there is a new release, based on Thunderbird 3 code called variously Eudora 8 or Eudora OSE 1.0.

I hope it runs better than the early releases of TB3. That was a disaster. I tried it 3 or 4 times on a couple of different computers and the sheer sluggishness caused me to revert to TB2 every time.

Dan,

I follow Mozillazine stuff reasonably well (my browser, K-Meleon, uses the Gecko engine) and I don't think they've gotten all the bugs out of TB 3.xxx yet.

They claim that they are making progress though. <g>

The only slowness I've encountered is the indexing that it's doing constantly.

Mike,

All of this is the consequences of Mozilla Corp going to SQLite and bloating (my opinion) the Gekco 1.9 engine by taking what used to be extensions and building them into the engine.

There are varying solutions to how Gecko 1.9 does things. In FF, I turn off most of the stuff with a variety of addons. In SM and TB, it works slightly differently. In KM, the developer turned most of the SQLite stuff into stubs and doesn't use it, as KM uses Windows APIs and a robust macro language to do things, while maintaining support for Wallet and other text-based solutions.

This thread talks about how TB (and by extension Eudora 8) constantly indexes stuff and how you can get relief.
