My usual strategy when no def stands out is to pick the most unlikely
ones. However, they all look pretty unlikely in this case! I'll vote
for two picked more or less at random:

> 11: (Obs.) A kind of jacket or `slop', worn by men in the 14th c.
>
> 16: An ester of glycerol and palmitic acid.

Where's the breadcrumb trail definition? I would have voted for it! Or a
house made of candy. Or a cannabilistic witch.

Lacking those, I'll go with the first store-sale (should be a word for that)
and the slop.

7 and 11 please.

Would you believe that numbers 2 and 14 have the most attraction for me?

2: a waxy substance secreted by termites

14: a merchant's wife

Eschewing all of the Hanseatic references, organic compounds the list is
much shorter. I'll pick from what's left and choose the mitten and the
rustic.

13 and 15.

I'll take 3 and 4 for want of any inspiration. Why does the correct
one never come equipped with flashing lights?

(I guess it does for Johnny...)

Millie -

A nice selection. I'll take a chance with:

12: (Obsolete) A jester's cap; a cockscomb.

and

16: An ester of glycerol and palmitic acid.

Thanks,

Chuck
