Tough one. Well, here are my guesses:

<< 14. A closely linked series, especially of excerpted writings or
<< commentaries.
<<
<< 17. The role of a maidservant or lady's maid in an opera, or
<< the like, esp. one
<< displaying coquetry, pertness, and a tendency to engage in

Actually, I rather like my submission. It's much more credible than the
other 18.

But since I'm not a believer in the follow-me rationale for voting for
one's own def, I'll have

> 6. _Med._ The first day of a fever or sickness.
>

and

> 11. A birthmark.

My voting message doesn't seem to have appeared in the Google group -
maybe I sent it privately to Tony. Apologies if this is a duplicate.

I'm tempted by the Norse sacrificial virgin, but I'll settle for a
couple of related ones:

> *17. The role of a maidservant or lady's maid in an opera, or the like, esp. one
> * * *displaying coquetry, pertness, and a tendency to engage in intrigue.
>
> *18. A statue of a child.

by spraying on hot oils while in the kiln.

and

18. A statue of a child.

Are you sure you didn't forget the real def? I'll go for 2 and 18, having
to particular reasoning to apply, just basically guessing..

None of the above. Or 2 and 13.
