Mike's away from his home computer, so we haven't yet had rolling scores
following the last round--but no such reference was needed to determine
the outcome for this one. Our next dealer, whose PROLINE def, "bending
back upon itself" (#13), racked up 7 votes, is Tony Abell. The number
two favorite, with 4 points, was Tim Lodge's "common; inferior" (#15).

The D0 recorded here isn't quite real, since there were two DQs: Johnny
Barrs (of course!) and Millie Morgan both confessed up front to being
familiar with the word.

Over to you, Tony!

I was a DQ - but I learned something (a word I didn't know) -- I had said to
you 'amino acid' After confirming my DQ I checked the OED and found that
it said 'imino acid' ---proline: A heterocyclic imino acid which occurs in
proteins and is a major constituent of collagen - Chemical name:
2-pyrrolidinecarboxylic acid; C5H9NO2.

so I looked up imino and found this

1953 FRUTON & SIMMONDS Gen. Biochem. iii. 49 The hydrolysis of a protein
leads to the formation of a variety of amino acids... The compounds having
the general formula shown are termed {alpha}-amino acids, whereas proline
and hydroxyproline are more correctly designated {alpha}-imino acids; for
convenience, however, these two cyclic compounds are also called amino
acids.

I have since found that the use of the term "imino-acid" for such amino
acids as occur in proline is disputed --- if I personally had to come down
on any side in that dispute I would plump for 'imino' on the grounds that an
amine has a primary =NH2 and an imine has a secondary =NH
