I Googled NIFLE after voting and convinced myself that Judy' popular
#6 was the real def. I found this in the dictionary of Brummie
(Birmigham UK) slang at

nifle vi. to wander aimlessly from one job to another making little
progress or improvement EG "`Er's niflin' about, not knowin' what er's
doin'."
