We have a most eclectic group of definitions -- 1 from a dictionary and 17
fake -- in terms of both theme and length, the latter ranging from
extremely short to extremely long.

Pit your wits against your fellow Dixonaryists by voting for two
definitions of your choice from the list below. Do not consult any reference works,
and email your selections to the general list by 9:00 AM Eastern Time,
August 10, or the equivalent in your zone.

Even those who did not submit a fake definition are eligible to vote. Good
luck to all.

Assuming we are voting for fescennine, and not fescinnine or
fescienne, then I'll take two of the grassy definitions, to wit 4 and
12

FESCENNINE it is, despite the misspelled subject line.

5 because they followed instructions to submit two defs, and 2 because
innkeepers' wives need more recognition.

"Fescue" is an unusual word to occur in a definition so I'll choose one of
them although I doubt if there are alkaloids in fescues - hallucinating
sheep are beyond my ken; and I like the semi-precious painting too

That's #4 and #17 please

Without any justification, or much hope, I'll vote for:

> 2: of or pertaining to the commedia dell'arte character Fescenna, usually
> depicted as a worldly-wise innkeeper's wife with a talent for invective;
> colorful or bawdy (language)
>
>
> 14: pertaining to a language with an ergative verb system

Wow. "Eclectic" is putting it mildly. (I've actually seen both
shorter--how about one word?--and longer, though.) This crowd is
extremely inventive.

It's dart-board time. I'll try:

> 12: having characteristics of a large group of European grasses

and

> 18: a small passenger bus, usually electric

Yes, as Jim pointed out, this appears to be a somewhat different word.

I, too, was actually voting on the basis of the original, *FESCENNINE*,
not "fescienne."

Thunderbird, BTW, didn't recognize either.

DS> I, too, was actually voting on the basis of the original, FESCENNINE

I will pretend that the spelling of the word made a difference.

7 and 17 (mainly because one really can not "liquify" many metals at all!)

Quickly, 6 and 16.

Sorry about that. Sometimes I lose track of whether I've replied or not.
