Dear people

A "thank-you" to everyone who expressed support for the family in our
recent crisis. We were very touched by your care. Please excuse the single
mailing to say thank-you and update the situation but I have more than two
thousand emails to scan for usefulness and relevence (relevance to anything)

The baby, Hugh, is a bonny boy looking beautiful but has however no
detectable brain activity. He breathes, yawns, stretches, opens his eyes,
and is growing; but all the actions we see are autonomic or reflex reactions
- for instance, he does not suck and is fed by a nasal tube. He was released
from hospital and is now at home. The medical prognosis is survival for days
to weeks, possibly even years but with no change from his current state
possible.

Hard!

So now we have returned back to UK and are acclimatizing ourselves to our
own real lives having spent days living in a bubble. We saw our role over
there as trying to give some sort of stability to our granddaughter who is 2
1/2 by living at her house (about 90 miles away from the NICU where her
parents were) and taking her to see them and Hugh every other day. (Goodness
me, aren't your cars big! And you drive on the wrong side of the road<grin>)
She was a real little trooper and although a strong willed little girl is a
delight to be with.

So once again, thank you all for your care for us

Oh, John, that's so sad about little Hugh!

One can only hope that somehow things will turn out better than the
current outlook seems to suggest.

I am sorry to hear about little Hugh. You never know what will happen,
so love to all of you, and I wish you all the best, whatever that might be.
