Let's Just See How Observant You Really Are:

1. On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?

2 How many states are there in the USA? (Don't laugh, some people don't know)

3. In which hand is the Statue of Liberty's torch?

4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?

5. What two numbers on the telephone dial don't have letters by them?

6. When you walk does your left arm swing with your right or left leg?
(Don't you dare get up to see!)

7. How many matches are in a standard pack?

8. On the United States flag is the top stripe - red or white?

9. What is the lowest number on the FM dial?

10. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?

11. Which way does a "no smoking" sign's slash run?

12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?

13. On which side of a women's blouse are the buttons?

14. Which way do fans rotate?

15. How many sides does a stop sign have?

16. Do books have even-numbered pages on the right or left side?

17. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?

18. How many sides are there on a standard pencil?

19. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing?

20. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?

21. On which playing card is the card maker's trademark?

22. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts the opening between the slats?

23. There are 12 buttons on a touch tone phone. What 2 symbols bear no digits?

24. How many curves are there in the standard paper clip?

25. Does a merry-go-round turn counter or clockwise?

Thanks, Judy.

I'm saving this for possible posting elsewhere.

I did pretty well. I think it's because of my trade, which often requires being visually observant.

I think it's because of my trade, which often requires being visually observant. Then try this one,...on yourself or on colleagues:

1. Take a large (8"x10" or therabouts) sheet of plain paper and a ballpoint pen or a No. 2 pencil.

2. WITHOUT LOOKING, draw an accurate representation of the face of your wristwatch, including as many details as you can. (Obviously, it is going to be easier to enforce the no peeking rule on someone else....)

(It is amazing: Although one looks at the damned thing at least 50 times a day, very few people will get the details right. Most will forget the placement of the second hand, will forget the manufacturer's logo or the "SWISS QUARTZ" banner, will forget the second makers--if any, will forget whether the watch has Roman or Arabic numerals and if there is a full set or just a few,...etc.)

I have to question 9, 10, 14 and 25.

The lowest number on most FM dials is 88. Some can tune to 87.75, which is neat because that is the audio carrier for Channel 6 TV.

Water drains in random directions, unless some dominant mode has been introduced by the direction the faucet pushes it. http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.htm (http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.htm)

The ceiling fan above my head right now, in fact all three in the house, rotate CCW (anti-clockwise, for the Brits) when they are blowing towards you. My CPU cooler does indeed turn CW. Car fans depened on the direction of rotation of the engine.

Merry-go-rounds?

Second hand?!!!! You have a watch with hands?I hate, despise, abhor and abjure digital watches. I can tell the time by simply glancing at my trusty analog watch--no need to squint, read the numbers, or tilt the thing to make sure the light hits it right.

I suppose a private beach or private swimming hole might qualify under certain conditions (which I don't know about). Maybe a cool idea on a hot summer day.

If not that dip, then how about dipping an ice cream cone in *chocolate* and nuts?

Perhaps it would be rather cold if one had to stand guard all day long at an outdoor one in the winter time. I read that the Breslover Rebbe joined the polar bear club at the outdoor mikveh when he was just a child. I doubt his Mom found out about it or she would have given him a good scolding.

No, I just 'borrowed' the picture. I was sure that our traditional merry-go-rounds turned clockwise but couldn't find that ones I know I have in my collection (taken at an Xmas fair a year or so ago), so I went Googling... and found one that seemed to go the 'wrong way round'

(probably an import... French and Italian merry-go-rounds also appear to go anti-clockwise)

"Come in right now! You are going to catch your death!"

"But, Ma; all the other yeshiva buchers are doing it!"

"I don't care what those hoodlums are doing. If they jumped off the roof, would you want to jump off, too?"

Yurpeans are sure a straaaaaaange breed.

From the time I was 5 till I was 17 yrs. old, I lived IN a large amusement park on a lake outside Detroit every summer. My father was the ass't park manager and owned the roller skating rink in it. We had a magnificent, huge Merry-go-round in its own domed circular structure. It only had animals (even included an Ostrich) and ornate two-row carriage-type bench seats. The outside perimeter had about 40 units.

It went CCW.

There is a magnificent, permanent one here just outside of the Intra Muros (Walled City) of St. Malo. It also goes CCW.

Then I won't tell you what it meant for a young lad when we rented our house in the city out to a Detroit Tiger by the name of George Kell each summer.

**Just how good were the seats?**

Over the dugout. It was called 'Briggs Stadium' in those days. My best buddy and I were allowed to go to batting practice once in a while and 'shag flies' in the outfield. Boy, would that have a different meaning these days!

Ricardo: I wear a Suunto satellite watch. It would take about 75 sheets of paper to draw all the various faces available.
The time version I have up most often has the day of the week, month and date, time, am/pm, seconds, battery status, a couple of parentheses, one on each side, and some other details.
Then there are news screens, stock market, weather, etc., etc. I love gadgets!

I live in New Jersey, remember. EVERYBODY here ate Campbell's soup. Campbell's was the single company that kept Camden afloat for many years. (Even Campbell's eventually gave up, though the place is experiencing something of a renaissance, with the aquarium and some riverside gentrification.)
