View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2090: WAQF Definitions

Guerri Stevens
March 20th, 2010, 08:21 PM
I am shocked. SHOCKED I tell you that no one pointed out the error in
the deadline for definitions, namely Saturday the 19th.

At any rate, here are 17 definitions, only one of which is real. Vote
for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one),
before the deadline which is (checking calendar) Monday, March 22 at:

9 a.m. EDT
6 a.m. PDT
1 p.m. in London and UTC

and so on.

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this
round. Don't look in a dictionary. Full rules, if you're curious, are
at: http://tinyurl.com/4m6ger.

1: heretic; magician.

2: [Arab.] a cooking-pot.

3: a Muslim religious court

4: a dry stream bed; a river valley.

5: [Arab.] a large pillow used as a seat.

6: [acronym:] Western Australian Quarantine Forces

7: an acronym for an obscure British ethnic disparaging comment.

8: acronym for the (now defunct) Western Australia & Queensland flights

9: A type of water supply tunnel found in north Africa or the Middle East.

10: an endowment made by a Muslim to a religious, educational, or
charitable cause.

11: [Arab.] a trust or bank which charges no interest, in accord with
Islamic law.

12: A Mameluke government official in charge of grain storage for a
designated district

13: Mongolian cotton scarf traditionally used to protect the face from
dust, esp. when riding.

14: A mildly stimulating herb chewed in some mid-Eastern countries where
alcohol is forbidden.

15: a dynamic window manager for X11. It is externally similar to wmii,
but internally much simpler.

16: a leather hood designed to protect birds from wind-blown sand, used
in falconry in the Arabian Peninsula.

17: [Acro.] Wide Area Quantum Field (a theoretical construct proposed by
Richard Feynman to explain quantum entanglement).

Going on the assumption that it's not the abbreviation it appears to be, and having not the faintest idea what it is, I'll try

1: heretic; magician.
and

12: A Mameluke government official in charge of grain storage for a designated district

Guerri -

We were probably to preoccupied with WAQF to get further than Saturday
and the hour.

With great optimism, after dismissing the middle eastern possibilities,
I'll put forward my acronymic choices of -

15: a dynamic window manager for X11. It is externally similar to wmii,
but internally much simpler.

and

17: [Acro.] Wide Area Quantum Field (a theoretical construct proposed by
Richard Feynman to explain quantum entanglement).

Thanks,

Chuck

My apologies. I logged on to collect messages before posting results,
and yours was not in my inbox. It is there now, and the time stamp
precedes the deadline. Luckily it doesn't change the results other than
giving an additional point each to Dan and Mike.
