Herewith a veritable slew of nice definitions for WURF! Vote for two of them before Wednesday night at 8 p.m. eastern time. Thanks!!

1. a kind of whip.

2. Thor's daughter.

3. a gale-force wind [Scots].

4. To blow gently upon.

5. to suppress quietly or indirectly

6. dirty tatted tuft of sheep's wool

7. a stone's throw; also, a glance of the eye

8. When a surfer and his dog surf together.

9. a corps of mercenaries [ME (y)werf(en) 'recruited']

10. a thick beer brewed from hops, barley and molasses.

11. small offcuts of wood produced when shaping components in joinery

12. The material cut away by a lathe [Ger _Wurfe_, from _werfen_, to throw].

13. any dark igneous rock whose composition cannot be determined with the naked eye.

14. to oversteer (a racing car) so as to cause a fatal shift in the vehicle's gravitational torque.

15. A lantern-shaped cupola on the roof of a medieval building for admitting air and providing for the escape of smoke.

16. a grease soaked fiber mat, or more recently a teflon donut, used to lubricate the bearings which allow railway cars to travel on curved track.

A thought: This game is likely very Freudian. A sort of ink blot test? Both in regards to definitions and to votes.

Although I think I can rule out a few of these, choosing among the
