View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2073: ABACOT [Definitions]
Paul Keating
January 17th, 2010, 11:07 AM
Our inventive players have concocted all but one of the 20
definitions for ABACOT presented below for your edification
and entertainment. The remaining definition is, believe it
or not, real.
Please vote for the two you think the best, for some value
(or values) of "good" that seems appropriate to you (such as
plausible, politically correct, embarrassing, witty,
implausible, long, or as chosen by a random number
generator). You can do this whether or not you have not
submitted a definition, and whether or not you have played
before. You're not allowed to vote if you know the right
answer.

So many of these defs are so very convincing . . . nearly impossible to choose.
I guess I'll go for

and

As usual, I don't think I even have a good guess!!
These seem to go well together:
<< 13. _Botany_ the rudimentary terminal bud of a plant embryo
<< situated at the end of the hypocotyl, consisting of the
<< epicotyl and often of immature leaves
<< 15. a tricotyledonous seedling in which the middle leaf is
<< larger than the other two

13 and 15, please.
We start on an extended holiday on Tuesday, via California to New
Zealand and eventually back to England via Hong Kong. This means that my
appearance here for the next 6 weeks or so will be irregular, depending
on what internet connections I can find. Though the issue isn't likely
to arise, it's very unlikely that I could deal!
Best wishes,
Tim B.

You're going all the way to New Zealand and not planning to stop and meet our players in Melbourne?

I'll take two completely wild guesses: numbers 9 and 15.
9. a pale blue pigment, prepared from the native blue
carbonate of copper, or from smalt; -- called also blue
abacot
15. a tricotyledonous seedling in which the middle leaf is
larger than the other two

whimsical - 5 and 19

9 because I believe it, and 19 because I don't

I'll vote for 3 (because I think it deserves a vote)
and 7 because it sounds unlikely enough to be correct.

Paul -
This is a good variety of choices. I'll go for -
7. white cover for a military cap
and
13. _Botany_ the rudimentary terminal bud of a plant embryo situated at
the end of the hypocotyl, consisting of the epicotyl and often of
immature leaves
Thanks,

I find 3 and 19 pretty clever... they should be rewarded.
