Although there is but one step from the sublime to the ridiculous, you have 17 steps to consider here for your choice. Kindly vote for two hereof before 6 a.m. EST on Saturday 2 January 2010 (making this a decennial bimorphonumerological occasion?)

1. a view of meditation.

2. a condition affecting the visual centres of the brain.

3. conversion of limestone into marble.

4. A state of bliss achieved through vigorous tantric exercises.

5. [Logic] an existential quantifier in monadic second-order logic.

6. The cognitive process.

7. a fungal infection of the sinus cavity.

8. small silver salver for burning incense [Gr. _thuia_ incense]

9. a swelling of the leg joints in a dog.

10. one species; has close similarity to genus Thuja.

11. the collective symptoms of hemlock poisoning.

12. [Obs.] an archival accounting of criminal activity in a particular area over a specified period of time.

13. [Orthopaedics] a congenital malformation of cartilage located posterior to the patella.

14. a mythical Norse sailing vessel, believed to rescue sailors lost at sea.

15. Boulders thought to be the homes of the "hidden people" in modern day Iceland. It is said that work crews building new roads will sometimes divert the road around these particular boulders.

16. one of the small lateral photoreceptors found on various arachnid species such as the so-called horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus]

17. The ability to use the eyes independently, so that each eye sends a different image to the brain; found in birds and small animals.

18. a woolly growth that can be peeled off.

Gosh, could be none...could be all!

I'll go with these:

<< 2. a condition affecting the visual centres of the brain.

<< 4. A state of bliss achieved through vigorous tantric exercises.

(but I really did read'em all!)

Dave -

On this most auspicious lunar eclipse - blue moon - New Year's Eve
occasion, which is a once in a lifetime occurrence, I'd like to wish all
present all the best in the year to come, and to cast my approval on -

4. A state of bliss achieved through vigorous tantric exercises.

and

11. the collective symptoms of hemlock poisoning.

with no particular comment on how they might be related, or which I'd be
more likely to try.

Thanks,

Chuck

I could swear I saw 18.

Anyway, after consideration (which has not relieved my bewilderment),
I'll cast votes for

1. a view of meditation.

and

17. The ability to use the eyes independently, so that each eye sends
a different image to the brain; found in birds and small animals.

A very Happy New Year to all!
