Here are 19 definitions for COCUM, one of which came from a real dictionary,
the rest from your demented daydreams. I don't envy you the task of choosing
the correct one. You get 2 tries. Reply by 10 PM EST, Saturday, November 14.
1. a swag-bag; the proceeds of petty thievery [cockney rhyming slang fr.
hocus-pocus]
2. a sort of archaic fish described by Pliny the Elder.
3. _Irish English._ In Irish folklore: a malignant sprite or hobgoblin,
_esp._ one which takes the form of an animal.
4. a hat worn by the Ghurkas.
5. nonsense (poss. from hokum)
6. a gentleman's travelling companion; an escort.
7. a flowering herb growing in moist areas; milfoil.
8. a procuress or bawd.
9. red lead.
10. a substance processed from the fibrous husk of the coconut, used

This is a pretty tough one. I've narrowed it down to four or five
possibilities; the last time I did that, the right one was among
them--but I picked two others. I've likely done the same here.
My probably erroneous choices:
