We ended up with a total of 18 definitions for QUISBY. Please vote
for two, by public reply to this message, before deadline,
which is Noon EST on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, or
9:00 AM PST .
1. The shudder caused by taking very bitter medicine [fr.
quinine or cuscus bark].
2. (Sl) A female counterintelligence agent.
3. A fool or stooge. (<a minor character in several works
of Oscar Wilde, serving as a victim of ridicule or
pranks.)
4. The person or team having the lowest score in ninepins.
5. Supporting structure for a polyp colony.
6. A clamp used on the fret board of a stringed instrument
to raise the key.
7. The female genitals.
8. An auxiliary gel light used in cinematography to temper
too-deep shadows. [Origin obscure]
9. A fishhook having an even bend.
10. A pillow bolster.
11. A broad-brimmed hat with a plume, worn by men in the
17th Century.
12. A card game much like Old Maid in which the Ace of
Clubs is the card to be avoided.
13. An unimportant hamlet or settlement; _spec._ one
without a church.
14. An Australian food fish; a morwong.

I've narrowed it down to three...all of which are probably incorrect. <sigh> I'll take my chances on the following:

Nice word, and a really interesting list of defs, this round.
Several look outlandish enough to be real. I think I'll try:

Vox pop says it's 3 or 8, so I'll go with the crowd, but I don't for a
