View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2038: Status

With only 9 hours to go, a mere 10 definitions have been received, from
Lodge, Madnick, Shepherdson, Savage, Barrs, Cunningham, Shefler, Widdis,
Keating, and Stevens -- 3 of whom are DQ.

There was also a def from Tim Bourne, but he sent it publicly to the list,
so it cannot be used.

If yours is not listed above, please resend _to me_, not the group.

If there is not a significant number of additional defs by 1:00pm EDT
today, I think I will have no choice but to cancel this word and substitute a
new one.

That's odd ... I sent off my def for STERNUTATION about 12 hours ago, but it obviously didn't arrive at it's planned destination.
I wonder if this was the case with some of the others as well?
Anyway, I've just re-sent it to EnDash (AT) aol (DOT) com so hopefully you'll get it this time, Dick

Good. I may have been fooled by this in the header:

From: _dixonary (AT) siam (DOT) co.uk_ (mailto:dixonary (AT) siam (DOT) co.uk)
Reply To: To: _EnDash (AT) aol (DOT) com_ (mailto:EnDash (AT) aol (DOT) com)

I will add his definition to the list of valid ones.

For some strange reason, AOL plopped in in my Spam box, but I retrieved
from there and added it to the list.

Could you confirm that, please, Dick? That's not how it looks from my
end; the addressee is clearly shown as EnDash (AT) aol (DOT) com. I can't see it on
the Google group either. Could you be mistaken?

Best wishes,
Tim B.

I was mistaken, and your definition has been included with the others
received. -- Dick

Dick,

Spam filters seem to have a curious and not-quite-predictable logic.
Most of the time the gmail filter does a good job with my mail but
occasionally it will reject a seemingly harmless email with no
attachment, no multiple addresses and from a previously-admitted
sender. But to its credit those few false positives are even rarer
than the false negatives that sometimes reach my inbox with their
irresistible offers of wealth and potency.
