Here are 16 definitions of wobbegong, only one of which is correct. You
have until 7 PM EDT, Friday, September 4 to vote for your two favorites.

1. _Colloq_ the freshwater mackerel. [Poss Anglicization of Choctaw
_wappikon_]

2. frisky and unmanageable cattle infected with warble-fly maggots. [see
_bot-fly_ and _gad-fly_]

3. girdle or belt; patch or band.

4. _Celt._ an evil water spirit.

5. an elongated impact crater formation that lies just to the east of
the larger Tiselius crater, on the far side of the Moon.

6. the larval stage of the jumping bean moth (Cydia saltitans).

7. an Australian aboriginal ceremonial pole.

8. an extinct species of the order Sirenia, closely related to the
manatee, hunted to extinction in the 18th Century, formerly found in
the waters of SE Asia.

9. A fishing lure that looks and acts like a wounded minnow.

10. _Austral._ a small brook or stream.

11. _Afr._ a warning sound, esp. at a road crossing.

12. _Algonq._ a clam.

13. a redundant stability controle device, designed for use in spacecraft

There are an awful lot of water things there and a fair few native Americans
too ...no help there. So drawing a bow at a venture I'll go for a lunatic
carpet
