Here are 13 definitions (did I mention something about luck?) for PIBROCH, only one of which came from a dictionary.
Send your votes for two of them by public reply to this message, before the deadline:

5:30pm Wed. 5/8 Melb.
12.30pm Wed. 5/8 PDT

3.30am Wed. 5/8 EDT

7:30am Wed. 5/8 UTC

8:30am Wed. 5/8 BST

*PIBROCH*

1. _Scot._ the entrails of a deer

2. a freshwater fish found in the upper Amazon river and its tributaries

3. salted herring

4. a series of variations on a martial theme or lament, played on the Scottish bagpipes

5. _Scots_ A two-handled drinking cup

6. a sort of confection flavoured with hazelnuts and pistachios

7. a jaunty leather cap with a short bill

8. _Mil. acronym_ "pidgin brochure"; an informational pamphlet issued by
occupational forces, written in the civilian mixed-language jargon
employed locally. [WW II use, chiefly So. Pacific]

9. a small purse-like leather pouch, sometimes decorated with feathers, worn with a kilt in traditional Scots dress

10. [Scots] a bog or swampy area

11. convoluted ridge between two grooves

12. an earthen dam (Afrik.)

13. a frock coat

First I was thinking "fish." Then I thought, no, "Scots," but there are too many of those. Decisions, decisions...

Well, for lack of a better idea, how about one of each:

<< 2. a freshwater fish found in the upper Amazon river and its
<< tributaries

<< 10. [Scots] a bog or swampy area

That's interesting. I printed out the list of defs, and some came out
in slightly larger type than the others--specifically, defs 3, 4, 7,
8, and 12. I wonder what that means.

Anyway, I kind of like them all. Probably not spoiling my long-time
record of not getting the right one, I'll put all of my guesswork on
the Scots and choose:

> 4. a series of variations on a martial theme or lament, played on
> the Scottish bagpipes

> 5. _Scots_ A two-handled drinking cup

Millie

I think it's Scots, but that doesn't really help much, as it only cuts
it down to 5 defs. Using a pin, I've selected:

4 and 5 please.

uh oh. My def didn't make it...

I've heard the word before, and I can narrow it down to one of three, so I am DQ.

With only 13, you'd think it would be easy to choose! Here comes
another D0 for the new kid~

I'll take 3 and 13.

Sorry I didn't make it in time with a def, my online attendance is a
bit sporadic these days. And now that I've seen the choices I too must
DQ. I hope to be a more active participant next week.

I'll take a couple of the Scots: 4 and 5:
