I have been drinking silk soy milk ever since 9/11 when I developed some respiratory problems and milk was giving me phlemn.
To my distress, I failed to notice that Dean bought out Silk and no longer can be trusted. From importing overseas Chinese soybeans for their higher end organic to keeping the old carton but removing the organic small print from the label, they're not trustworthy imo. I'm going back to VitaSoy, my old choice, which only uses American and Canadian organic beans.

Ever since the pet food scandal, I make a concerted effort to avoid any kind of food products made with ingredients from China.I avoid Chinese-made American-style food, but do buy the condiments and ingredients needed for Chinese food, hoping for the best.
Do wonder sometimes, but there is nowhere else I know of to buy, say, Sichuan peppercorns, fermented bean paste, tiger lily buds, dried bean curd, etc. I used to think they would be safe because they are produced for Chinese people, not primarily for export. But lately I have wondered. (But then I would have to avoid Chinese restaurants, too — they use these things.)

Judy,
Yes... the PRC is not a contract-oriented society, despite Deng's push in that direction. Too much bribery to trust food at this point. (Not that our FDA has covered itself in laurels in recent years.)
