View Full Version : [Dixonary] OT: Word lists available

I have lists of all words dealt in Dixonary through the present round--one
list in chronological order, the other alphabetical; words dealt but not
actually played (because they'd been dealt before, or because there were
too many DQs) are included, with that status indicated. The lists, which
are plain text files, include the dealers.

I'll be happy to e-mail them to any player who asks. If you'd like to have
them, let me know.

I thought the word lists were being maintained in the Dixonary group. Is
that no longer true?

I don't know, Guerri. I do everything Dixonary by e-mail, and I update my
copies of the lists periodically.

Guerri,

JohnnyB maintains the list in the Dixonary group in human-readable form,
with both a .txt extension, which browsers will just display; and a .dix
extension, which is what Dixomatic expects to find, and browsers will offer
to download.

I maintain the list (along with rolling and cumulative scores) in
machine-readable form (zipped .db files) on the Coryphæus support site at
rocketcottage.com. It is not in the Dixonary group (nor the Yahoo group
either) because Google and Yahoo go to a lot of trouble to make it hard to
download files unattended under program control.

Neither of these forms is suitable for players who opt to play the game
exclusively by email.

When I first took over the publication of the DIX/TXT files I sent a message
providing a set of links for direct download and offered to send by email.
No-one ever took me up on either of those things so I stopped the message
and merely posted the files

The offer is still there, I will email them upon request

I would like the links please... is there a reason not to include them in the announcement?

Toni, there are links in the Google group on Pages | Used word lists. I
think Johnny didn't mention it because they have been there for two years
and he probably assumed--obviously wrongly--that everyone knew that.
