OK! Here are 19 definitions for PLISKIE -- please vote for TWO by public reply to this message. This was in a rush, so all errors are the fault of the dealer. If there are typos, I don't guarantee that the REAL def doesn't have one.

Deadline will be Thursday evening at 9pm Eastern Daylight Time. (3pm PDT, 2am GMT):

1. a cornmeal griddle cake, served with sour cream and green onions.

2. a reed basket.

3. [Rus.] slang for Czech beer.

4. (sl.) insulated portable container

5. lively; spirited; cocky.

6. a benevolent spirit in Cornwall, similar to the Irish leprechaun.

deriv. play and piskie (for pixie)]

8. A variety of large minnow, much used as bait in the Great Lakes.

9. _Scot._ var. f. _pixie

10. pickled herring. (Finn.)

11. a one-horse open carriage with a removable canopy.

12. in football (soccer), an error committed by kicking the ball toward
the wrong goal. named for the Polish player, Wladislaw Pliskie, who
committed the error during the 1928 Olympics

13. a cherry flavoured liquor generally found in eastern Poland.

14. stuffed pigs' trotter sausage

15. an aerial manoeuvre performed by a circus troupe.

I'll pick 2 and 15 as the highly unlikely suspects.

Christopher Carson

I'll fall for 2 and 15.

13 because we had Swiss cheese fondue last night and had a lively discussion
of kirsch.

And I've a hunch it's one of the uncombined mischievous tricks because of
the general dealer reluctance to combine such defs. I'll go with the less
specific one, 19.

Since almost half the list offers a very mixed banquet of allegedly
edibles and drinkables I'll go for the herring and pigs' trotters -
that's 10 and 14 plis.

I can't decide which of the mischievous typos to go for - perhaps I'll
try the Scottish one. My other vote goes to the leprechaun in honour
of my Cornish son-in-law.

6 and 19 please.

Toni -

A nice selection. I'll try -

1. a cornmeal griddle cake, served with sour cream and green onions.

and

10. pickled herring. (Finn.)

Must be dinnertime, eh?

Thanks,

Chuck
