View Full Version : [Dixonary] Here I Am Again

As a few of you may have noticed. I've been offline for almost an entire
week.

One morning, the computer simply refused to connect to the Internet at all,
no matter what I tried -- followed by an entire morning on the phone with
Verizon, which got me exactly nowhere; and another half day on the phone wi
th a Dell tech, which also got me nowhere at all.

What with the holidays, weekends, and a baby-naming for my new grandniece,
the problem wasn't resolved until this evening (Monday), by one of the
excellent technicians from The Geek Squad, who diagnosed and fixed the problem
after a couple of hours of intensive troubleshooting.

So, here I am back again trying to catch up on all the missed mail,
messages, and whatnot. It will take me a while to respond to email messages;
please be patient, and give me a day or two to get even.

If I understood it correctly, somehow the DSL modem had "lost" my ID and
password, without which it could not allow me to connect to the Internet; and
he knew how to get it back into the modem. Neither Verizon nor Dell was
able to figure this out and they put me through all sorts of nonsense fro
hours -- some of which made things worse.

The tech from Geek Squad did take almost two hours to solve the problem,
but most of that was by a thorough process of elimination of various
possibilities, including a deep check for an infection.
