I was so tired last night when I got home that I knew there would be no
point in trying to post the defs without serious mistakes. I hope you
will forgive the delay.

I'm going to set a rather lax voting deadline, this being a holiday
weekend of sorts - 8:00am EDT Easter Sunday. Vote for your two favorites
by then I'll post the results when I can.

>>> CASTALDY

1. a state of extreme agitation

2. A corrosion-resistant alloy of iron and nickel.

3. A small castle (from medieval Spanish: castilluelo)

4. a roasted chestnut; a sweetmeat

5. (orig. brand name, also generic) large cast iron cooking and
heating range, as found in old farmhouses.

6. [Med. law] a state of indebtedness such that the debt could not
conceivably be repaid within the debtor's lifetime; if not forgiven by
the creditor, the obligation was assigned to the debtor's next of kin

7. greed, esp. greed of an outrageous or public nature. (obs.)

8. a servant to a Moorish nobleman.

9. Water that contains little dissolved mineral matter, esp. rainwater.

10. A composite material used in dentures

11. the spiny outer coat of the sweet-chestnut [castanea sativus]

12. [M.E.] a disease of the gums.

13. a ram whose testicles have been removed

14. stewardship

15. A valve combining hydraulic and mechanical features, named for its
inventor, Vincent Castaldy.

16. torture instrument for crushing fingers.

17. [Law] the holding of monies by a third party pending the completion
of a contract.

18. a technique of using multiple coloured inks in single impression
lithography.

19. a woman's tall, pointed hat, with a veil.

As usual, no clue. I'll go with the chestnuts:

<< 4. a roasted chestnut; a sweetmeat

<< 11. the spiny outer coat of the sweet-chestnut [castanea
<< sativus]

>>> CASTALDY

I'll take a chance with the last two, 18 and 19:

18. a technique of using multiple coloured inks in single impression
lithography.

19. a woman's tall, pointed hat, with a veil.

Hi Russ,

Don't worry. I'm about as forgiving as it gets. Especially when it's just
about a game. :-)

I'll try 4 and 6.

They all seem unlikely, though some more than others.

I'll try #7 and #17.

I believe 6 and would like to know the real word for 18.

Darn! There's another def gone into the bit bucket. It looks like I'm
going to have to reverify my email addresses and make double sure I'm
clicking 'send', although according to my 'sent' items it went out at
10:55am on April 8.

I'll take the pretty outlandish (and wrong) 6 and 11.

Hmm it sounds more like an abstract noun or a process rather than a
thing so put me down for 7 and 18

I vote for 14 and 17.

Russ

I marked 6, 7, 12, 14, and 17 as possibles on my first reading.
Whittling them down with a pin, I'll vote for greed and the gum
disease:

7 and 12 please.

(But it's probably the small castle!)

Russ -

This is an intriguing selection of choices. I'll go for -

1. a state of extreme agitation

and

10. A composite material used in dentures

Thanks,

Chuck

4 and 13... lots of good ones, though.

Russ,

I'll put my votes in for numbers 14 and 18.

Just out of curiosity, did my def ever show up? I've been reconfiguring my
mail over to Windows Mail from Outlook Express and I may have a glitch or
two.

I'll try the unlikely 9 and double that for the popular 18.
