In case you were wondering...

The forum was down briefly this afternoon because of a database / PHP misconfiguration by our host. Fortunately, it was reported to us quickly by a member (thanks, Kathleen!) and Sidney was good enough to get the host on the ball to fix it.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

We here at the VRWC are convinced, of course that other factors were at work.

You might have something there. [warning, rest of paragraph is technobable. political rant resumes next paragraph] The ISP had rebuilt the PHP binary for some good reason not relevant to this issue, and while doing that changed it from having a statically linked MySQL library to using a shared MySQL library. They added a line to the system configuration file for PHP (php.ini) to indicate that, but forgot to consider that some few customers have set up their own private version of the php.ini file. I have a private php.ini file for the tapcis.com site, which meant that it did not have the necessary line to allow it to run with the new build of PHP that had the shared library.

Where this relates to the VRWC theories is that the ISP replaced the rugged individual copy of the MySQL library with a shared collectivist version, and the only sites that were penalized were the ones that had decided to forgo the use of the One True Ini File proclaimed by the socialist operating system in favor of taking individual responsibility for their configuration.

You may be happy to know that we stood firm and still have our individual php.ini file unchanged. The ISP, once informed of the problem, restored the statically linked MySQL library to the PHP binary image.

Awaiting Mme. Hillary's assertion to the effect that a Vast Right-Wing etc. was behind it. <sneering wearily>I see that running against the Clintons has now complete replaced running against FDR as the right wing shibboleth...
