Hot cider may not help that cold, but after three or four or you won't
care.

a small handcart used in undeveloped countries to harvest hay or other
crops that can easily be placed onto the cart in large piles.

I'll wear it proudly.

Pathetic in Peoria

Thanks for the crown, Dodi! I think this is a first for me.

You're very welcome. And it looks lovely on you.

Perhaps you'll share it with Wayne, who seems to think he deserved one,
although I didn't see any publicly posted def from him.

I wondered about Wayne's message myself. I'm not sharing the crown with
anyone, even though it does look odd with my gardening outfit. Perhaps
you should consider a less-formal version for casual wear????

Guerri, you're gardening at THIS time of year? Yes, I know you're down
there in South Carolina, but--

Well, actually, I didn't design THIS one. A bunch of them were left behind
when the crowd decamped from the old forum (some, in fact, rolled down to
the dungeon, where I found them under the stairs, all grimy and cobwebby);
I just gathered them up and polished them and now, as you can see, they're
all sparkly and good as new.

A less formal crown? Hmm. Something in denim, perhaps?

Dodi, I am gardening in a very limited way - planting a few bulbs in
ground softened up by rainy weather, cleaning up, etc. Today was
especially nice, some sun and highs in the low 60s. It is not usually
like this in early January, though, and we have had some very cold
weather, lows in the teens. We are in the northwestern part of the
state, so we tend to have colder weather than folks in, say, Hilton Head.

There are buds on my hellebores, which I got because they are supposed
to bloom very early. And this year I think they will. Unfortunately they
are not really satisfactory because the flowers face down too much.

As for the more casual crown, it wouldn't have to be made of denim, just
something that would go well with denim. For a rural touch, you could
consider straw. Or felt or something knitted that would cover the ears
of those in colder climates. If you need something stiffer, perhaps you
*could* use denim, with studs in it to provide structure. And there's
always the mauve saran wrap. I can see it - crumpled saran wrap with
chopsticks for the structure, and some sequins pasted on...
