Here are 19 highly plausible definitions of CHIGOE. Please cast
your votes for the two of your choice (and I don't envy you,
making such choices) by public response to this post.

The deadline for voting is about 35 hours from now, 2000 hours,
aka 8:00 pm Eastern Time, tomorrow evening, Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Enjoy!

I can't eliminate enough of them to make a semi-intelligent guess, so I will just go with the paints and dyes:

<< 9. A paint made from turpentine, lampblack and brick dust.

<< 11. A red dye made from brazil wood; a reddish or red-orange
<< color.

10 and 15 because they have no logical derivation at all for me.

I've read them all, but I'll vote for two of the early ones, the tree and
the tool. That's #3 and #5.

It's probably one of those bugs.

Since there are no definitions asserting "wild onion," the origin,
some say, of the word "Chicago," I choose: 11 and 12.

There are too many insects, so I'll just choose the last one of those: 5 and
19.
