Alright... I waited a little extra... and here are 19 definitions (woulda been 20, but for Nancy's Dixon--and my calling attention to it).

Anyway, please vote for TWO of these (newcomers welcome) without looking at a dictionary.

Deadline is 6am Eastern Daylight Time, on Wednesday, Oct. 29. That's 3am Pacific, and Tuesday evening Over There.

And thanks to all for the recovery wishes... I'm progressing!

1. loss of feeling in the upper thighs after sitting on stacking chairs for any length of time [also

_numbum_]

2. an arboreal hide for tiger hunters

3. sour wine resembling vinegar

4. an object of worship [Skt]

5. [Hind.] an accountant.

6. a felt cloth or pad placed under a saddle to prevent chafing

7. _Sanskrit_ A footprint, track, or trail, especially of an animal.

8. a partial eunuch.

9. [Scot.] a malicious sprite.

10. A pouch worn over the chest for carrying or nursing a baby.

11. a type of rifled cannon introduced in the late 1850's.

12. [Hindi] a village headman.

13. A Turkish tea cup that is twice the regular size; also, a double serving of tea.

14. [Amer. Ind.] An intertribal meeting of elders at which they are
seated in facing rows, rather than in a circular pattern.

15. A traditional round dance of Romania.

16. a country lane

17. a minor official in Sri Lanka.

18. a figurative expression

19. Stockade; a Central African defensive enclosure of a camp.

20. an enamelled tray used for serving cakes, sweetmeats, etc.

...numbered from 1 to 20.

Anyway: No clue whatever. I'll try #2 and #18.

4 and 12, please.

I'm on holiday for the rest of this week. I think I'll have internet
access, but probably wouldn't be able to deal - not that the question is
likely to arise!

Best wishes,
Tim.

Hi Toni,

I chuckeld at #1. But I won't vote for it. Instead, I'll waste my votes on

> 4. an object of worship [Skt]

> 12. [Hindi] a village headman.

Best, Hugo

The idea of a partial eunuch intrigues so I must vote for that so #8 and
double it - #16 for me please

I can't even imagine what a partial eunuch would be, and I somehow
doubt numb thighs is the real definition. I've seen too many Scottish
sprites and spirits. Of the remaining seventeen, I'll take a Sri
Lankan and a Hindu. That's 5 and 17 please.

I vote for 3 and 19.

Guess you didn't get my definition, either because I sent it to
tonic...@yahoo or else it got excessively delayed by my mailer which
has been behaving strangely recently. Or maybe you just don't like me
<sob>.

Anyway I'll still vote for, um,

8. *a partial eunuch

and

20. *an enamelled tray used for serving cakes, sweetmeats, etc.

because all the others seem remotely plausible.

But actually I still think it's the name of Peter Sellers' feathered
friend in "The Party"

I'm going to fall for one of the Sanskrits and one of the weird - 4 and 8.

Toni -

An interesting choice. I'll be in transit for all of Thursday, so with
fingers crossed I'll try -

2. an arboreal hide for tiger hunters

and

12. [Hindi] a village headman.

Thanks,

Chuck

I'll be out of town and unable to deal in the unlikely event I win this
round. Anyway, I'll vote for 6 and 10.

I have no clue -- and with my track record, a pure guess will probably be just as good as my taking the time to try to figure this out. <G>

So I'll go with:

<< 2. an arboreal hide for tiger hunters

<< 13. A Turkish tea cup that is twice the regular size; also, a
<< double serving of tea.

I'm too delicate to ask how one might qualify as a pertial eunuch, but
it's worth a vote. I'm also drawn to the rifled cannon:

8 and 11 please.

5 and 12 seem most compelling (not necessarily right, just compelling).

Oops.

I'll take 4 and 19.
