The list of thoughtful Republicans who are bailing, publicly, out of the impending McCain-Palin shipwreck grows ever longer. Former Governor William Weld of Massachusetts held a press conference (http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/10/weld_backs_obam.html) in Salem NH enthusiastically supporting Obama. And former US Solicitor General Charles Fried announced he had voted for Obama and wanted his name taken off all of the McCain campaign material. He said the critical factor for him was the choice of Sarah Palin (http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_plank/archive/2008/10/24/reagan-appointee-and-recent-mccain-adviser-charles-fried-supports-obama.aspx).

Judy,

The rats are deserting the sinking ship. The only thing left for them is voter fraud on a massive scale.

The rats are deserting the sinking ship. The only thing left for them is voter fraud on a massive scale.I'm just hoping this is far less close than it appears. Otherwise (and frankly even if it is a runaway), I expect a lot of the rabid rightwingers to refuse to recognize the legitimacy of an Obama presidency.

Otherwise (and frankly even if it is a runaway), I expect a lot of the rabid rightwingers to refuse to recognize the legitimacy of an Obama presidency. This has been going on for decades now. Many Repugs never accepted the legitimacy of Bill Clinton, and Dems have been whining about W’s stealing of the office for both terms.

It’s okay with me, so long as everything is genuinely up and up this time.

It’s okay with me, so long as everything is genuinely up and up this time. The problem is that, no matter which side wins, the other won't believe everything is genuinely up and up, even if it is.
