View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 1945 -- BORDEREAU -- Defs Up
EnDash@aol.com
October 16th, 2008, 01:05 PM
We have a bumper crop of definitions for this round: one real, and 20 fake;
and they range across quite
a spectrum of subject matter.
Vote for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one),
before the deadline, which is
10:00 AM EDT, Saturday, October 18. Good luck with your choices.
New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this round.

It couldn't possibly be 18 or 20.

Hi Dick,
Well, it's obvious - it has to be either
> 2: a fortification that has two projecting faces and two parallel flanks
or
> 7: a round for four unaccompanied voices
(Though I must admit that 12 looks tempting...)

I'll go with the moat "stuff":
<< 4: a ditch or moat surrounding a property
<<
<< 5: a greenway between the castle wall and the moat

3 is unlikely, and 7 is impossible.

They all seem both pleasant and possible.
I'll try #15 and #16.

A nice selection. Many seem plausible. Many don't. I'll pick one from each
category.
I'd like to know the real word for 5 if it's not bordereau. And I don't
believe for a minute the real def includes 'boogie-woogie' but 21's author
deserves a shimmy.

I really did read them all, but I like 2 and 3 best of this odd group.

Dick -
A nice crop, I'll attempt a harvest with -
10: a portable writing desk, usu. with an adjustable top, popular in
18th cent.
and
15: a narrow-gauge, sans serif typeface first used in 1893 to advertise
the Chicago World's Fair; also called Border Modern
Thanks,

Wow! Great timing for me... went under the knife shortly after submitting a def, now out and home and can vote before the deadline (minus one tit, but otherwise, OK!)
I'll go for 1 (how obvious can you get?) and 3 (just kinda unusual)
